I had put a pair aside for myself but never got a chance to actual take them home and wear them and then someone nearly cried in the store because she wanted them so badly and so I gave her 'my' pair. Get the Floc outta here! OK. I love this style so much they're getting their own post. So very, very, very comfortable! I know this because the second they came in, I grabbed my navy pair and put them on my feets. Unlike any other pair of Melissa's I have, these guys have an actual cushioned insert! "Hey Moon! You are hitting the streets of Tokyo with me next week. Walk, walk, walkety walk!"

New Beginnings

Happy new Year!

We closed for a week- and because I am a manic, instead of taking a week off after the sheer insanity of the appropriately named silly season, I thought hey, let's renovate the shop. It's been 3 and a half years (Believe!) and it was time to freshen it up a little. Mostly because let's face it- there were things about the space that having been working for us since the beginning.. Like, for example the ever diminishing space/storage and the ever growing amount of stock/lines we are representing.

So what's for 2012? Well, first things first, we're having a bit of a kick ass sale on almost everything in the store so we can make room for the new seasons things that will start arriving pretty soon. Make that 20% off clothes that are not marked down already (excluding ONLY the Qoo Qoo hoodie which only JUST arrived last week when we were renovating- it's $199). Also 20% off all full priced Melissa shoes AND up to 40% off our socks and hosiery..

Next, well, we're going to be getting in the AW12 hosiery range. Lookie here...

And what else. Well, well, we're taking this range with us to Tokyo. Mmmhmmm. We're showing at a trade Fair called Rooms. I'm thrilled, terrified, overwhelmed.. But am certain it will be AMAZING and having a few extra days to play in Japan is pretty rad too. Hit me up with suggestions of your favourite things to do in Tokyo will ya. I want to go crazy there :)

The other huge thing we'll be doing is FINALLY getting a kick-ass online store happening. Yes, for reals (I have 12 months to make this happen but hope it will be much sooner so DEFINITELY expect it!).

I can't remember EVER being this excited about my little shop. There is so much cool s**t in store and on it's way to our racks and shelves that I might just explode. From the humble beginnings of some black white and grey upon opening 3 years ago- OK OK is now an explosion of colour. From our very own socks and tights which are stupendously cheerful this Spring, to the bright block colour of the Baggu's and Melissa shoes- the accessories adorning our little space are like candy! The clothes however have still been very basic and very, very neutral in terms of colour. Until now!

I discovered this AMAZING label stumbling around the world wide web and fell in love instantly. Qoo Qoo is Latvian, artfully designed by Alyona, a graphic designer (you can see how that comes into play!)who makes stuff I want to wear. I approached Alyona about getting some Qoo Qoo gear for OK OK and she was totally into it, so I have placed a very small and exclusive order from her DOG range which will be in store sometime in the very near future. My very favourite thing from our correspondence was when I asked her when I could expect the order to arrive and her response was: "we have a lot of orders now, it takes time to make all this things handmade, i think we will be able to make your order in 2-3weeks." Love. So, you heard the lady, Qoo Qoo Debut at OK OK... Soon? Right on!

For what it's worth, being a local someplace really has its merits. I wonder sometimes, what a tree or sea change would be like. What it would be like to move to Castlemaine, Kyneton or Lancefield like so many people I know seem to be doing. I see the appeal sometimes, sometimes not so much. Yesterday, driving back the scenic route from Golden Plains (Meredith) a charmingly sunny day, roads one car wide and greenery and quaintness in abundance, I was drawn in by the idea. This country thing I get but moving to a country town...What's the true appeal? Is it the community thing?

You know by now that I'm mad about my beloved Brunswick. Bonkers for it. And why? Well, I guess that in this little pocket of my home town, I have truly found my sense of community within the tentacles of Sydney rd, Lygon street, Albion... Victoria, Albert, Glenlyon.... This is partly due to having lived in and around Brunswick proper for quite a few years now, but more due to the fact that I have nurtured my business here. And it's the community of business owners and locals alike which has really developed my big Brunswick crush into a full blown love affair.

Likewise, I make sure that I support local small business too where I can. I'd likely count myself somewhat of a fixture at least at a couple of places. Not the least of which is A Minor place at which I have been drinking coffee and eating beans since their very first week of opening (ok so they didn't quite have the beans happening there yet but the coffee yes). Last week I was thrilled to pop into Hootan and Jono's newest venture Wide Open Road in Barkly Street, conveniently located about a 3minute stroll from my place and on the way to work.

Beautifully fitted out and with some of my favourite familiar faces from A Minor Place (Tommy!!!), I think I just found a new space at which to become a part of the furniture. If you're cursed with a coffee obsession, you will not be disappointed with their offering. Cannot vouch for the menu yet, I think they're sans beans thus far, but you should definitely go and check it out. Yay for the ever growing expansion of the small business community in Brunswick!!

From time to time, we get some pretty outrageous looking Melissa shoes. I mean why not? They make them, we get them and wear them and cherish them. Such previous favourites were the Vivienne Westwood Wings..How good were they? Pretty bloody good I'd say! And the Zaha Hadid's? Yeah, amazing. Just in at OK OK are the new keraizees of the season. I'm sure you've seen them in the paper, heard about them... Here they are and what's with this customisation business?

The designer is Gaetano Pesce, a 71 year old Italian industrial designer. Check out his stuff here. I think you'll agree that the collaboration was inspired!

If the Dark Chrystal was channeled into metals and cast into rings, this be them. Chunky as. Heavy, raw, individually cast and completely awesome. Written by Nick, the show is being performed by Rachel Dyson-McGregor. The VERY talented artist herself: Belinda Wiltshire: Cute to boot!

I go on about the ridiculous talent spilling from every crevice and pore of Brunswick. It's because dear friends, there is some ridiculous talent spilling from EVERY crevice and pore in Brunswick. Not the least of which is the super-talented Belinda Wiltshire who not only runs the brimming with beauty arts hub, The Pea Green Boat studios in Tinnning street, not only styles TV commercials and video clips, designs costumes and sets for various shows year-round, builds racks with her bare hands (see yellow rack on a dry day in Sparta Place) and too many other things to name... BUT is also a talented as hell artist in her own right.

I have lately been too slack to post timely information about important stuff on this blog (sorry 5 followers!), but it's not too late till the show closes SO get your butt to Belinda's beautiful exhibition ASAP. It's an extraordinarily stunning body of work titled The Other Woman and it's on until the 30th at Kick Gallery in Collingwood. Do it.

I am beginning to consider myself quite the Brunswick Art Patron. Recently I had the talented Max Dns wheatpaste some OK OK hands on the facade of my humble Sparta Place shoppe.

I was so chuffed with Max's work I decided to get some more artwork at OK OK. I asked Somedumbcunt a local artist and self-proclaimed nuisance, to unleash their artistic whimsy on my Shop this weekend and they came up with the fabulous new window display pictured above.

When I interviewed Somedumbcunt and asked what their inspiration was for the piece, which shattered tiny little shards of glass throughout the entire shop and took me several hours to clean up this morning (I mean everywhere! Like all the way to the furthest corners of the changeroom at the back of the shop), they answered:

"I basically delved deep inside myself to the core of my self-hatred, awoke my inner asshole and decided to act out a most selfish and pointless excercise. I was drawing on age old stupidity of acts of violence decided upon in a split second of total disregard for anything but my own putrid self importance." (Read: I was bored so I threw a fucken brick through your window then split).

Interesting. The window display @ OK OK is open to the public for 1 day only as the glass is being replaced tomorrow.

Thank you Somedumbcunt, I was starting to like people again but you have reassured me that that is terribly unwise and I should stick to thinking most people are stupid assholes. xOK OK

Further to my obsession of ALL things yellow, I am thinking about getting these amazing skateboards at OK OK for the Summer.

Brunswick is well known for it's very active bike riding community but something about having these POP! plastic boards on our streets carrying hipsters in Vintage from Ray's to the Vic Hotel (we don't want to get puffed out now do we?)appeals to my 1980's heart.

Penny Complete Skateboards are made here in Australia, fit in your backpack and are a remake of the original plastic injection moulded boards from the mid 70's. They come in under $150! SO, I need some feedback, who thinks this is a good idea for OK OK? Comment on this post or send feedback via email or on Facebook.

From Dream to reality..

I have long had an obsession with the colour yellow. It's a particular type of yellow. It ranges from point A. super bright & perfect yellow let's call it, and spans far across the Pantone rainbow to neon yellow (ignore the 'all-the-kids-are-wearing' neon trend- my concern is not with them- this love of Neon yellow is a legitimate and real love- not some flippant 'trendy-must-have-this-season' Love).

It is true of course, that where fashion is concerned, yellow is a misunderstood misfit which clashes with just about everybody's skin tone. Cruel but true. I don't fall into this category and can safely say I look shit-hot in yellow (it's true, I've been told). Mostly though, it's a colour that should be reserved as an accent, a peaking out hint, an accessory colour or part there of. Insert perfect bag of my dreams & in my imagination...

Oh my god so funny! All I can say is 0% body fat, ZERO story line & NO actors (apparently you can make a movie without actors, who woulda thunk it). What it DID have were starved, plastic children, who admittedly could dance, were dressed in NIKE & filmed doing dance routines then they sticky taped said scenes with some other random RIDICULOUS scenes where they talk to each other (not sure why they bothered) added a hip-hop & R&B soundtrack and called it a film.

So, so bad that it was hysterical.

So after 16 films MIFF finally delivered! And with undoubtably the best film I have EVER EVER EVER seen. Yep, NUMBER 1!

The few words I can find to give you SOME idea about the experience are: mind-blowing, revolutionary, unbelievable and downright astounding!

Gaspar you are a genius and have just taken over as top spot for my favourite artist of all time.

5 seconds into the opening credits (which are also the end credits) I whispered to my friend that it was already the best movie I had ever seen, not realising it was actually about to be the best movie I was to ever see. Watch below and see what I mean.

Oh Google images! How you shock and delight me! My new funnest game when I'm blogging is to type in a word in google images from which to get a pic for this here blog. Once I typed in Harlequin. Umm.. Scary (still traumatised, can't go into it!).

Today I typed in 'HAPPY', this was not the first picture that came up. Amongst the smiley faces, fluffy kittens, birthday illustrations etc... there are a few questionable porn style images which rake it into the top 10. Oh right of course, Happy New Year spelled out on bare ladies bum cheeks. Sure thing (!).

Ok. My point, Melbourne is tre gloomy this week! Urgh and blurgh! Enough already! Also, despite my tights empire, I am SICK TO DEATH of wearing tights under my jeans and even more sick of negotiating the many layers it takes to keep warm without looking like the Michellan Man (woman- whatevs). Particularly thanks to the already lumpy 'winter coat' one manages to acquire this time of year (thanks slow metabolism/big appetite!).

To cheer myself up, I got me one of these new OK OK skirts to put on today. This picture does not do it justice (let's face it, neither would a 2-D image of my butt in it so this is the desirable option). The skirt is rad. The back is pictured here, it has an über chunky zip which has a fake leather trim. This baby is high waisted and thick and stretchy with darts to assist so it hugs ya all over. This little minx is retailing at OK OK exclusively for $129.
Also, these pants are in and brand spankin'. Pictured here very poorly with my Iphone the colour is bullshit amazing! It's like copper & khaki had a baby. The cut is really great too and they are unisex of course. Pleated, high waisted (for the ladies or with room to spare for your junk for the fellas), tapered leg etc... I got the biggest size and wear them really baggy with the cuff rolled up so my sexy little ankle socks are showing (of course there are woolen tights under said socks 'cos it's freezing!). These puppies are $169. They also come in gunmetal which is almost black but not.

Back to the point. This serious winter blues period can only be cured with retail therapy because let's face it, it's time to get the winter coat off so snuggling up with comfort food on the couch with back to back episodes of the Wire is Spring fashion/social suicide (no pressure!).

OK. BACK TO WORK! Now where did I put that motivation...???

How to give your tired looking Shop a facelift for it's 2nd Birthday

Step 1: Take one ordinary shop (ahem! As if!).
Step 2: Enlist über cool local artist Max Blackmore to conceive, design & execute some awesome shit.
Step 3: Get said artist up a ladder on a dangerously windy day in the wind-tunnel that is, Sparta Place and make yourself useful by holding the ladder (safety first children! Yes, Max & I talked that morning & made sure to co-ordinate his undies to my jumper- these things are very important).
Step 4: Final touches ("Max can you get back up the ladder so I can take a photo from this angle please? Yup, that's good.. Thanxs").

& VOILA! Facelift! Thanks Max. You're rad. Love your work. Love my new shop..

Over Your Cities Grass will Grow: Directed by Sophie Fiennes

Like Hi! Yeah I know, I'm a slacker. Don't you know it's MIFF time! MIFF in Melbourne is my favourite time of year. I was too far up my own hiney to get there last year and too fricken broke with the small business caper but am back with a vengeance this year. Proudly I would boast that this spectacular festival is quite seriously world class. I should know as it is the only Film Festival I have ever been to so this gives me authority to make wild sweeping statements like that.

So I've seen lots, nothing's managed to bowl itself into my top 10 or anything like that but some goodies have been viewed (and we're only half way through so stay tuned!).

The pick so far was 'Over Your Cities Grass Will Grow', a doco come experimental-soundscape piece by Sophie Fiennes on prolific German artist Anselm Keifer.

What grabbed me by the shirt collar here more than anything, truth be told, was the scope of the subject matter itself. The documentary style was pretty clumsy, with the sound and visual sequences of the works probably the most triumphant, albeit long for some it seemed(many people were walking out.. Boredom? Short attention span??).

What eventually took my breath away was the combination of seeing the processes applied, materials used, man power needed to develop the too many to count or comprehend, pieces in Anselms' manufactured landscape. I am not even going to try to explain... It's beyond me..

What else...?? Hah! I am bored with this post! Point really was to say how awesomely life consuming and fulfilling I find MIFF and to urge you if you're in Melbourne to go to there. It will most definitely be worth your while checking out the program.

Trash Humpers: Harmony Korin

My hot tip is to see as much obscure stuff as you can as it might be the only time you'll get to see it. The 'good' films will be at Nova soon enough. This is risky as it means there's probably more chance that it will suck then blow your mind BUT you'll feel good for going all arthouse and trying new things. And despite the shitfull reviews I've heard about Harmony Korines Trash Humpers I AM going to see it, love it or hate it, because he is a genius. Eff-off naysayers for urging me not to bother.

Go and see a movie before it's back to Knife-point shopping centre for shit Rom Coms for the rest of the year!

Once again, the Melbourne Design Market managed to deliver a stupendous day for all involved. If you came by you would know what I mean. My sister and I worked our butts off selling OK OK tights like maniacs. It was fun!

What's news for OK OK? Well, I have just got a new lot of the Spring socks in store for y'all. Very exciting. Kind of a bit of a tease really. These are going to look so, so great with our summer frocks and skirts and shorts and cute sandals and... Please be over Winter. I'm bored with you (not really- winter is Rad I totally jest). Pics soon. For now, I blog whilst 10 boxes of socks sit in a changeroom and all over the shop (pardon the pun- HA!). Also for now, we will have to do the ankle sock and tights combination (which is by the way my favourite look this winter). As far as what's on offer, think bright thoughts and candy 'cos that's what these puppies are...

What else.. Man, OK OK's friend SATU dropped off some stock yesterday for the ladies. So cute! We only have 2 dresses, a skirt and a jacket but don't trust this 'only' business, these 4 pieces are amazing. Love it all, but how good is the pic above of the Country Girl dress?

Also, just picked up a selection of knitted goodies from Brunswick made Otto & Spike yesterday which I spent half the morning merchandising. I almost lost my shit at their knitting factory yesterday- just down the road from OK OK! I am such a nerd- the machines these guys have! The stuff that was being made! Freakin' awesome. Am so happy to have more great products from clever kids in Melbourne.

Incidently, I wish I'd gone to the Loon Lake gig BEFORE going in to Otto&Spike to pillage the factory of it's wares. I was standing there scratching my head amongst guys beanies wondering what the boys were wearing these days (because I am old and out of the loop clearly). To be honest I was kind of going aren't beanies a bit daggy? Yeah; No! Young boys in long beanies looking pretty great last night at THE WORKERS CLUB I have to say.

Totally unrelated, but I typed 'condom looking beanie' in google to find out what you call this particular type of beanie (cited above unimaginatively as 'long beanie') and came across nothing very helpful but I did find this picture of Damian Marley:

Seriously, how good is Melbourne?

For two weeks, back to back, I've had besties who've moved away, re-visit Melbourne and of course much gallivanting about town has ensued.

Last night was no exception. Sydney bestie and I kicked it in grand style. We dinnered at Wooden Spoon in Smith street, I had the Dengaku Don- YUM! On our way to destination 2, we walked along Gertrude street and caught some of the Projection festival stuff by accident (I'll be back tonight with a glass of red and layers to check it proper). We then checked out Loon Lake at The Workers Club to sample a bit of an unearthed treasure from Geelong. Nothing like seeing a packed out band room at 8pm on a Thursday night! Apparently Beanies are in in a big way amongst the young male folk.

Next stop, Price Band Room St Kilda. I effen love this venue. I know there are a lot of haters but I always enjoy my night over on the other side of the world. Perhaps it's because I probably make the trek about as often as I visit Sydney (twice a year) so it feels like if you're going to make the effort, you want to make the most of it.

We made it just in time to see the start of Big Scary. Holy Shit! I was blown away (am obviously about 1000years behind as it was the first time I'd heard them). Anyway, Tom & Jo killed it.. Jo played the goddamn cymbals like they were a goddamn instrument I'd never heard and rightly so when you're playing songs with 2 people where 1 instrument is a drum kit and the other a keyboard (piano).. [Insert Cymbals as instrument here]. Occasionally I am so overwhelmed by the sheer fabulousness of people that I fantasize about actually being them (Patti Smith, Thea from Blonde Venus in Brisbane, Mel Bower etc.. etc..). I want to be Jo from Big Scary right now more than anyone else in the world. She is that good.

Then Little Red came on and did little to overturn my internal Jury's decision that they are the most overrated band I have ever seen. Big call I know. I don't mean to be a hater by saying this... Clearly I am completely on my own here as they had a seriously booked out, totally raucous crowd losing their proverbial shit over every song like it was THE best song ever written. Girls were in red dresses, hipsters were generally out in full force in support and love for them. I don't think the lads would lose any sleep over not winning me over.

While I appreciated the experience (as a +1), I won't be camping out for tickets or buying the album anytime soon. Sydney Bestie is suitably disturbed by my indifference and vows to put their 'hit' from the new album on a mix tape for me in an effort to turn me. Not that I'd admit it to anyone but I did go to bed with a 'Rock it' ear worm thrashing about incessantly like a soundtrack for my insomnia.

If I have not gone on enough about how much I HEART BRUNSWICK then I have not bared my soul to you yet. Everyone goes on about it, Brunswick is the new Fitzroy but it's not even that. Brunswick is now what Fitzroy and Collingwood were 20years ago. Not to mention the uncanny resemblance between the arts scene in Melbourne around Flinders Lane 15years ago. Brunswick is IT. NOW. Not, 'give it five years', it's NOW. In five years you'll have totally missed the boat. Moreland City Council will have managed to completely fuck it up by then. It'll be gentrified and artless and clean.

The scale of awesome shit happening in the grid of streets once a hub of major manufacturing activity is not to be underestimated. Closed down apparel warehouses are homes for artists and musicians, actors, performers, environmentalist and designers unparalleled anywhere else in this city at the moment. There are galleries sprouting like little magic mushrooms all over the place and offering the same sort of experience. They're independent and lacking the usual pretension you see in many art establishments in Melbourne. They're put together by communities of people who rally together and support each other, live together, party together. They make our coffees, serve us our beers, adorn our buildings with art and colour and vibrance and add a diversity to the personality of our streets.

Well people, tonight, there is an event on in the city at Donkey Wheel house, to launch The Brunswick Show. You should check it out. It basically represents everything and almost everyone I have just blabbed about, not the least of which are 2 Archibald prize peeps, Sam Leach and my favourite creative entity in Brunswick, miss Carla Fletcher (big call I know but this lass is WILD!). The show is taking Brunswick to greater Melbourne. I love it. I love the hard work and effort put on by people like the lovely Belinda Wiltshire who also runs the Pea Green Boat studios in Tinning st which houses many of these artists studios. It should totally be called I LOVE BRUNSWICK.

Basically, if I were a man, I would be buying up second hand army shit OR in lieu of this (because cool Army fodder has almost disappeared), Burberry Prorsum Menswear. Brilliant save for the massive use of leather (we know I'm not hip to that Jive). I'd also be getting me one of these puppies from Fjallraven (pictured below). I stole this reference from a customer who told me he'd scored one online for a great price. He's rad, like all OK OK folk are and knows what up? in the world of fash' (you know those ones who've done a stint in London? You know?! Of course you do!).

What is it with this army gear obsession I have? I am such a peace-lovin' hippy when it comes to politics and ethics and such and THEN- I have this crazy side where I just loves me a khaki garment built to invade/defend a nation.. I can't even go with the outdoorsy practical excuse because I'm not really. I can and will camp but I'd rather rent a beach house with a dozen friends and drink red wine indoors with a few dozen bottles of red and an open fire. Is it my 80's obsession?? They did the look on Degrassi (I just got sidelined for about an hour looking through pics of Degrassi to get a good example of this and came up naughts- however I did decide that Liz was by far my favourite character- how come all I hear is "Spike this", "Spike that" and don't even get me started on that Caitlin! Ps: NEVER discuss The New Generation with me...). This is totally unrelated but I'm thinking SS10/11 me, this hair circa 1988 sported by Liz O'Rourke (Cathy Keenan)? Thoughts? BTW, my SS10/11 boyfriend will NOT be wearing a Hawaiian shirt a'la Joey let's just get that straight right now.

The wagon and I, sojourned to visit with my big sis' and the neice and nephew yesterday. Amelia A.K.A Milly (pictured sweetly above) referred to her little 1 y.o bro', Jett, as "Cutie Patootie".

I happen to think Miss Milly, that you're pretty "Cutie Patootie" youself, like ALL OF THE TIME, not least of all in the Vivienne Westwood for Melissa shoes your aunty Mina brought over as a gift. Milly was of course to pick out a colour (Yes- I'm crazy enough to actually get VW shoes for toddlers in the store but I draw the line at having 2 pairs of designer shoes before the age of 5- I'm not a total lunatic).

I took this opportunity to play dress ups with her and take poorly lit shots on my Iphone to Blog the shit out of these sweet shoes, surprisingly, the neice wasn't really up for it. She just wanted to dress up in her fairy costume and play this boring fairy game we play. Totally missed the whole fairy thing as a kid. Had they not been invented yet? Yes, I am a killjoy. Really? 'Trippy'?I trecked to Smith street today, with a spectacular craving for a black bean burrito. Waited for about 15minutes for what turned out to be a cold burrito AND it didn't have any soy cheese despite my ordering and paying for it. Insult to injury? They were playing Massive Attack 'Protection'. That shit has aged and should no longer be played in public. Anyone? Seriously! Upside- knowing the burrito was made in a meatless kitchen :) Most notable downside- it's no Las Olas which is hands down THE best Mexican I have had outside of California- screw you Las Olas for only being located in Torquay and Geelong. They're selling franchises though so can someone please put me out of my misery and open one in Brunwsick? You will make millions (off me). I'd do it my self but I'm sooo busy bloggin'.

But seriously, The Landing gallery is still closed so there isn't really a legit sound installation at OK OK. Sometimes I just make shit up. Saturday, however, a super-cool friend of OK OK popped in with her SPEAKR BOX that she has collaborated on with her boyfriend. This nifty little unit plugs into any headphone jack and requires no power. Ipod, MP3 player, Laptop. Compact and portable. Cute as a button AND stylish... Now being sold at OK OK for $60smackers. Loves it.

Last night I joined what felt like everyone in Melbourne, in opening the new 'show' at Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces. Yeah, it got opened real good.

'Always Moving (A performance laboratory in several parts) brings an active month of performance, sound, cinema, and event-based art to Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces (GCAS). In a unique exhibition and mini-festival, Always Moving will transform GCAS’ galleries into a lively hub, spanning a broad scope of performance happenings from Australia and abroad. Running alongside the exhibition is the Always Moving Event Series which hosts an unrivalled line up of talented curators, performers and artists.' Word.

The pic above is of one of the pieces obliterated last night by masses of hipsters unleashing their 'week' (take that Monday 11th-Friday 15th of June 2010!). As I watched slender bearded men and be-fringed, waifish lasses in vintage dresses wack the wall with a two-by-four, I pondered whether there would've been less carnage had this opening been on a Tuesday night and had the wine been $5 and not $2. I had had a perfectly wonderful week so didn't feel the need to fuck-shit-up but happily partook in the $2 wine.

Highlight; Bum Creek playing inside a foiled jumping castle contraption with hand held fluoro tubes lighting the figures and their mayhem. How do they come up with this shit? Looked so good, sounded awesome. The last time I saw these guys was at the Muppet tribute show thingy at the Thornbury theater a little while ago. Their Yip Yip Alien number was hands down the best thing about the whole production (sorry Kamahl!). It was like the video below but dark and like everyone had suddenly had their 'brown' acid kick in. Kids and parents were leaving.. Ahh the lols. I was in total bliss and awe. Last night they totally Yip-Yipped it up again. Round 2 just as good. No but seriously, it was a serious experimental performance and very seriously good. For serious.

Always Moving @ Gertrude Contemporary Arts Space Runs from Now until July 17th. Get comfy with the itinerary as there is some great stuff to view and experience. You shouldn't miss this.

I recently went to a great gig at this new Gallery in Brunswick. I consider myself to be quite a Brunswick-o-phile so of course I love this and plan on going to every single opening from now till the end of time. Sadly I was a little slow with the discovery (or more so lazy/busy to get there sooner)and missed the first couple of shows. Luckily they have a great blog with many pictures for the unfortunates to peruse and covet.

Shows include Max Blackmores 'Shitscapade' (otherwise known as Max Design'n'shit/ also co-owner of this wonderful space). Max's work has been making my days around Brunswick for ages in the way of his artistic wheatpastes (seriously just did about half an hour of research to work out what the hell you call the process he uses- thanks for wasting my youth artschool!). It's a little on the down low but OK OK & Max have a little collaboration project in the works (TBA).

Another discovery worth hollering about is Sunshine & Grease. OK. Here I've been so late on the up-take it's just embarrassing. This place is onto venue 2 and I only just caught wind. Now it makes sense that I didn't know about this one because I'm just a stupid fashion chick but if you consider yourself to be someone who's in the know with all things art and music then you should know about this already. If you don't, shame on you, start redeeming your sorry ass by visiting Pat on Queens Parade in Clifton Hill.

Current show Reverse Engineering runs until Saturday the 26th of June. Make sure you check that they're open on their seriously slick looking website as they tend to keep enviable opening hours.

It's me, Emina....

So, the other day people, I had a bit of a religious experience. I am vegan. I went to La Panella. Enough said. Ha, ha. As if. I have no good excuse for having never been to this pastry Mecca before and now that I have been I can only say that it's because I am crazy in the coconut. I kinda knew what I was missing but didn't really know till I got there, know what I mean?

The picture above was stolen from a great blog I read http://veganmelbourne.blogspot.com/. My pie was eaten out of a paper bag with sauce smudged all over it as well as my hands, face, clothes. My car Henry.. You get the messy picture. All this 'cos I'm a self important busy-bee and couldn't stop to eat a pie in a civilized manner between meetings. I did not enjoy it any less than if it were served to me on a silver platter though I must add. YUM! I bought up shit loads of treats to take away & freeze (2 of each thanks!). Sausage rolls, mushroom pies, veggie pies and pasties. Hellz yeah! And like a buck 80c for Sausage rolls and $2 bucks for the pies. Woot woot! Also got an apple danish. Bugger knows why. A sweet tooth I aint got and surprise, surprise, I thought it too sweet. Give me savoury or give me death!

Other highlights, serious Supreme Master Ching Hai propaganda everywhere. Quality. If you know nothing of this lady then it's high time you learn. She funny. She even got her on TV. You may have noticed her at the top of this post, but here's how she get's around these days:

I should not make fun. Apparently she has direct contact with God (that's her above chatting to him about what up in Gaza) and seems to have appropriated the crown for Vegan leadership the world over.

Saving the world is pretty rad. Being Vegan is pretty Rad. And y'know I love the faux Blonde bit. Just not too down on the pseudo-religious bit and the shoving your beliefs down peoples gobs bit.

Welcome to the official OK OK Blog. I thought I'd get this happening at Blogger as this shit is seriously easy to use and I didn't want to clog up the website with my rambles and rants. I plan on swearing (notice how I said shit earlier- such a bad ass) and Ima thinking probs not the best idea to blog on behalf of the biz with potty key/type??

The idea will be to blog about all things OK OK and anything else I want to tell you about that I'm all over until I'm over it. I love this city and there's a lot of great stuff going on ALL the time so I want to be yet another person to rave about it.
